Principal Speaks at South Los Angeles Baptist Church! Sunday, Aug 24 2008 

Hands Around Locke and church technostudies 8:01 pm

Mrs. Alexander, the principal of Animo Locke II, spoke at South Los Angeles Baptist Church to tell the church of the changes at Locke High School. She told the church about the changes at the school and explained how they can get involved.

On September 6, the whole community is invited out to participate in Hands Around Locke. Hands Around Locke will involve the whole community holding hands in a circle around the Locke campus to give it a collective blessing. We will give you more details soon, and we hope to see you there!

 

Staff Retreat A Success! Sunday, Aug 24 2008

The staff of Animo Locke II (all 14 of us) went on a retreat to prepare for the new year and the new school. We went did everything from community building to setting up the mission and vision statements. It is clear that we have a strong hard-working that is ready to educate!

 

Nightline Follows Animo Locke II on Home Visits Sunday, Aug 17 2008 

Home Visits and Lisa Ling and Nightline ABC technostudies 5:07 am

Lisa Ling, a reporter for Nightline ABC, followed the staff of Animo Locke II as we continued making home visits to non-registered students. Over the last month, the staff of Animo Locke II has visited as many students as possible to try to inform them of the changes at Locke and register them at our school. Lisa Ling will air a story next month about these visits, as well as the transformation of Locke High School, and the efforts of Green Dot Public Schools to reform public education. After the Lisa Ling left, we continued our home visits. We want the community to know about the changes taking place, and we want to get them involved! Session 2 Ends Successfully – Parent Informational August 26! Sunday, Aug 10 2008 

Parent Informational and Sept. 8 and USC technostudies 6:11 am

Summer Bridge Session 2 ended with a trip to USC. Many of the teachers participated as chaperons making for a very successful trip! We had over 100 students attend Summer Bridge, assuring that they are ready for our first day of school on September 8, 2008.

Speaking of dates, the next major event will take place on August 26. On August 26, we will hold a Parent Informational with all the details for the start of the year. All families will need to attend this event! More details will be posted soon!

 

Principal Speaks at Greater New Unity Baptist Church Monday, Aug 4 2008

Mrs. Alexander, the principal of Animo Locke II, spoke at the Greater New Unity Baptist Church about the transformation of Locke High School. The church is located 10 blocks north of Locke High School at 98th and Avalon. Mrs. Alexander, accompanied by her staff, spoke about how change was needed at the school in the community to combat the current high drop out rates. The congregation was very excited by Mrs. Alexander’s speech. This was a great way to get the word out to the community about the changes at Locke and the development of Animo Locke II!
