The first session of Summer Bridge at Animo Locke II is officially over. We ended with at trip to USC, Mr. Macauley’s alma mater. At USC we completed a scavenger hunt of the school. At Animo Locke II we are a college prep school, and we want to show the students what college is like, not just talk about it. The students had a good time, and definitely got to see the college. We treated them to lunch when they came back to conclude the first session. Overall, we have a serious group of focused students. We will definitely have a successful start with this group!

On Monday, we start the second session. We are looking forward to another wonderful group, and can not wait to get started with the second half of our school!

 

End of First Week of Summer Bridge! Sunday, Jul 20 2008

The first week of Summer Bridge – Session 1 has ended. We have had a highly successful week! Students were challenged with new teachers and difficult homework, but succeeded! In English class with Mr. Kitani, the students worked on sentence structure, and tested their reading and writing skills in separate assessments. In Math class with Ms. Fields, the students brushed up on basic math skills, as well as working on assessments that will help place them in math classes in the fall. In Leadership with Mr. Chardon, the students found out about how the school is set up and looked at their own values and future. 

There is a lot of mis-information in the community right now. Here are the facts: 
  • Animo Locke II will be located on the Locke High School campus. All students will enter at 110th and Avalon. 
  • Animo Locke II will begin with 150 freshmen. 
  • All sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be in the main Locke building and will not interact with the freshmen. 
  • There are 4 other freshmen schools. 
At Animo Locke II, we will have our own principal (Mrs. Alexander), dean (Mr. Macaulay), and teachers. Check the faculty profiles for more information! 

 

Summer Bridge – Session 1 has Started! Wednesday, Jul 16 2008

Summer Bridge -Session 1 has started! Although we will be located on Locke’s campus, Summer Bridge, a program to get students ready for the transition to high school, is taking place at the campus of Animo South LA Charter High School. We were hoping to have 75 students, but only have 45 so far. 

If you want to attend, please e-mail Mrs. Brown at sbrown@animo.org to get you name on the list! 
The first few days have gone smoothly thanks to a great set of students! The students are coming prepared to work and ready to learn. Animo Locke II will be on point!
